(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 in RSEQ men’s volleyball action on Friday, at the Dalplex, in Halifax.

The first set found the Tigers trailing, but not by much.

Dal’s Michael Donovan (London, ON) attempted to sneak the ball past the arms of a UNB wall but was denied, however his quick hands secured him the point.

For three concessive points, UNB’s Jacob Harris (Clarenville, NL) sent over powerful spikes that Dalhousie was unable to respond to.

Lucas Maffia (Victoria, BC) set up nine points for the REDS which helped in the REDS’ 25-23 set win.

The second set was yet another close battle.

When under pressure, UNB used quick hands and good defending off the net to score.

Harris attempted to reward a good UNB build up, but Lucas Condon-Oldreiv (Porters Lake, NS) was not going to allow that and blocked the attempt to tie the set at 11-11.

A quick return from UNB made the Tigers scramble, but Justin Cross (Winnipeg, MB) was able to settle the play and secure a huge back row kill.

Back-to-back service aces for the REDS’ Travis Prium (Osler, SK) forced the Tigers to take a timeout and regroup.

UNB’s Lex Guimond (Baie-Sainte Anne, NB) tipped the ball right through the Tigers defence and secured the final point of the second set to win 25-19.

The third set sealed the deal.

UNB’s Rafael Hilario (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) sent over five cross-court kills that proved too hard for the Tigers to handle.

The REDS were victorious with a score of 25-18 in the final set, taking the match in straight sets.

The REDS and Tigers conclude their weekend series on Saturday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 3:00pm.
