Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 While the results weren’t there, the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team performed well on the road to begin the season.

The Lakers dropped a pair of matches – both 3-1 – to the Guelph Gryphons on the weekend, as Nipissing began their regular season.

Friday night, after dropping the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-16, the Lakers bounced back to win the third set 25-23 before dropping the fourth 25-23 and the match.

Tyrus Cuculick led the Lakers attack with 12 kills, while Jacob Ringma added nine in the match.

Saturday, Nipissing took the first set, winning 25-21, but came up just short the next three games, losing 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20 in the fourth and final set.

Justice Smith and Cuculick both had 13 kills for the Lakers in the match to lead the offensive attack.

Nipissing is back in action at home, as they host Waterloo for a pair of matches at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.

Friday’s match is set for 8pm, with Saturday’s contest scheduled for 6pm.
