Momentum Volleyball’s Adult Volleyball Leagues aim to offer a

League Skill Levels

Social Leagues are fun leagues, open to all skill levels. Momentum’s social leagues focus on the social experience of volleyball, and encourage everyone to meet each other and enjoy playing the game!

Intermediate Leagues are for teams that are consistently playing 3 contacts, setting attackers to spike on third contact and with an understanding of rotations and positions. Early Intermediate teams are on the path to move up to the next level of league with some improvement.

Intermediate Plus Leagues are for teams running a 2-setter or 1-setter system, often with specialized positions and with 2-3 consistent attacking options. Teams are capable of attacking from the front or back row, and consistently able to spike on a downwards trajectory.

Advanced Leagues are for teams running a 5:1 system with proficiency, with all players having experience playing in Advanced leagues or at a comparable level.

Competitive Leagues are for teams and athletes with substantial playing experience at a highly-competitive school, club or league level. Teams are proficient at attacking from the front & back row, running fast-tempo setting speed to attackers and receiving serves in a 3-passer system.

General League Details & Rules
  • Free Play is optional open court time for teams to get extra repetitions and bonus opportunities to play! Check your league details to see if Free Play is available
  • Games are played to 25 points, with normal ‘Win by 2’ rules. There is no ‘cap’ on set scores
  • All teams must arrive at the start of the night; the ‘OFF’ team must provide at least one player to keep score on each court (2 total). These players will not be refereeing the game, and should not be asked to make any determining calls. Each team must send one person to report the final scores from each set.
  • The Mikasa FIVB edition indoor volleyball will be used. League balls will be provided by Momentum
  • There are no referees, and teams call their own fouls. In/out calls should be made on your own team’s side FIRST, however if there is a disputed point that cannot be resolved by BOTH TEAMS, the point will be re-served.

  • Minimum of 2 women on the court for your team at any time for Co-Ed leagues
  • If a team has only 5 players at the start of the game, they can still play but will leave one position open and lose a point & their serve every time that zone rotates to serve
  • If a team cannot field the minimum 5 eligible players at the start of the game, they will be given a 5-minute grace period for their teammates to arrive and start the first set 0-10. If after 10 minutes a team cannot field 5 eligible players, the team will forfeit the match
  • Uniforms or matching shirts are not mandatory, but encouraged!

Central Toronto Location:

The York School – Main Campus: 1320 Yonge St., Toronto, ON

Enter on the North-East corner of the building, located at the corner of Farnham & Yonge St. There is a staircase that runs upstairs from Farnham St. to the north side of the building, and this will be our main entrance for all leagues or programs at The York School. The York School is a private high school. There are washrooms available to use, and two volleyball courts in their main gym. Parking in the area is limited during the day and rush hour, however there are some options throughout the neighbourhood and along Yonge St. in the evenings. There are a few close-by Green P options, a few churches and several other private garages that are available as well, but we cannot guarantee any of them! For transit details, the St. Clair subway station is about a 4 minute walk north of the school, and the Summerhill subway station is about a 10 minute walk south of the school. Serving space is limited, and the design of the track above the main court has a low roof over the serving part of the court, so jump serving options are limited as well.

North York Location

Toronto Volleyball Centre (located inside The Hangar Sports & Events Centre in Downsview Park): 75 Carl Hall Rd. in Downsview Park, North York, ON

Enter through the main doors for The Hangar, and you will find volleyball located to your left just past the ball hockey rink! There is lots of free parking in the lot surrounding the building, and during the Summer months you can enter the facility through the large doors on the East side whenever they are open.
