Dinos cruise to three-set win against Cougars

Regina, Sask. – The University of Calgary Dinos women’s volleyball team completed the road sweep on Saturday evening by defeating the Regina Cougars 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport.

After dropping their first three games of the season, Calgary has now won three in a row to even their record through six games.

The Cougars made Friday night difficult for the Dinos, but poor hitting in the rematch would see them lose their sixth consecutive game to begin the 2023-24 season. Calgary finished Saturday with a .278 hitting percentage, while Regina hit just .065 as a team.

The Dinos carried momentum into the second game of the weekend and dominated the opening set. The visitors hit .435 in the first with Sophie Reed totalling six kills in a 25-15 set victory.

The best stretch of play by the Cougars came midway through the second set when they went on a 9-1 run to tie the game 19-19. Daisy Olsen recorded three of the final six points in the set to help Calgary close it out 25-21.

In the third set, an 8-1 run allowed the Dinos to turn a four-point differential into match point at 24-13. Regina registered the next four points, but a kill from rookie Alexa Landmark wrapped up the match.

Reed and Olsen topped all Dinos with 12 kills each, while Anya Fehr picked up 25 assists.

The Cougars were led offensively by Bailey Balaberda with seven kills and 17 assists from Cassadi Klapak.

The Dinos will enter a bye week before returning to action on Nov. 17 for their annual Block Party game at the Jack Simpson Gym. Tickets are on sale at GoDinos.com/Tickets.
