For the second night in a row, the Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team took down the Windsor Lancers 3-2 (29-31, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-18) on Saturday (Jan. 21) in Windsor, Ont.
The Blues improve their season record to 5-8 on the season.
TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year outside hitter Hope Kotun led the way for the Blues with a career-high 27 points off of a career-high 27 kills. She also added nine digson the day.
Outside hitter Julia Murmann followed with 21 points off of 21 kills and 20 digs. Fourth-year middle Elizabeth Bilawey recorded 12 points in the contest with six kills, four aces, and four digs. Libero Natalia Souza finished the game with 25 digs, while Jasmine Safar tallied 51 assists in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After the previous evening’s five-set victory, the Blues and Lancers were eager to return to the court. The first set demonstrated the two teams abilities with long rallies while putting pressure on one another. The Lancers would go on to take the first set 31-29.
The second set proved to be more difficult for the Blues as the Lancers went on several scoring runs taking the set 25-18. Nevertheless, the Blues team did not give up and took the first five points of the third set. This set the tone for the rest of the set as the Blues fought and won the third set 25-21.
The Blues continued with their momentum in the fourth set winning 25-21 and forcing a fifth. The Blues and the Lancers battled hard in the final set, but ultimately the Blues came out with the win by a score of 20-18.
UP NEXT: The Blues return to action next Saturday, January 28 on the road against the Western Mustangs. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
