WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: RAYMOND-LEDUC AND OWEN HAUL IN OUA HARDWARE

The Nipissing Lakers women’s team had a strong season, hanging tough with the OUA’s top teams and picking up a couple key victories along the way, as well.

While they had contributions up and down the lineup, two players stood out and were recognized by the OUA for their outstanding campaigns.

Outside hitters Oceane Raymond-Leduc and Paige Owen earned a number of league accolades, announced today.

Raymond-Leduc was named the OUA Rookie of the Year, a second team all-star and earned a spot on the All-Rookie team.

Owen made both the second team and All-Rookie team for her strong year.
 

Oceane Raymond-Leduc #10
Hometown: Ottawa, ON
Position: Outsider Hitter
Program: Education

Raymond-Leduc had an outstanding season, leading the Lakers offensively and quickly making a name for herself.

She finished the season with 222 kills – most in program history, 259 points, scoring at a rate of 3.22 kills per set and 3.8 points per set.

She managed this in 19 matches, suiting up for 69 sets.

The Ottawa, ON product ranked sixth in the OUA in kills and points, all while setting a new single match record for kills with 26, as well as 28.5 points.

Overall that weekend, she totaled 45.5 points, a new Lakers women’s volleyball record as well.

In 19 contests, Raymond-Leduc managed at least 10 points 13 times and topped 20 points twice and recorded at least 10 kills in 11 matches, including a stretch of seven straight in the first semester.
 


Paige Owen #7
Hometown: Cambridge, ON
Position: Outside Hitter
Program: Education

Owen was a key contributor to the Lakers offence and success this year.

She finished the season with 155 kills, putting her 12th in the OUA despite missing four matches due to injury.

She also posted a total of 173 points in 16 matches and 56 sets.

Her 3.1 points per set and 2.77 kills per set put her 12th in the OUA and she set a season-high with 20.5 points in a victory over Toronto late in the season.

She scored at least 10 points 10 times throughout the season and reached the 10 kill mark eight times, including her career mark of 18 against Toronto.
