Erik Siksna signs professional contract with Knack Volley Roeselare in Belgium

KINGSTON, Ont. (May 8, 2024) – Queen’s Men’s Volleyball alumnus Erik Siksna signed a professional contract with Knack Volley Roeselare in Belgium, the club announced Wednesday.

Siksna (Commerce) completed an illustrious five-year career with the Gaels this past season. Siksna was named a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, OUA First Team All-Star, and OUA Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season after finishing  the season third in the OUA in hitting percentage at .339, sixth in kills/set at 3.50, and ninth in total kills at 217.
 

“On behalf of the program and the team, we are extremely proud of Erik,” said Queen’s Men’s Volleyball head coach Gabriel deGroot. “It’s been a privilege to watch Erik develop into a pro over the last five years at Queen’s and we can’t wait to see him take his talents to the next level.

“Signing with such a high profile and top tier club has been something he has worked countless hours to achieve. Erik will undoubtedly be in the conversation as one of the greatest Queen’s Men’s Volleyball players of all time. We’re grateful for his commitment to excellence and for leaving the Queen’s jersey in a better place.  Congratulations and good luck Erik!”

The Markham, Ont. native was also named the Jenkins Trophy recipient for Queen’s Men’s Sports Athlete of the Year after helping the Gaels capture an OUA silver medal and finish fourth at the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, tying the program’s best ever finish at the national level.

The OUA and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year in 2019-20, U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian in 2020-21,East Division Player of the Year in 2021-22, and now four-time OUA All-Star, Siksna also finished first in the conference in service aces at 52, and service aces per set at 0.84. Siksna also recorded 16 assists, 87 digs, and 24 total blocks in the 2023-24 season.

A top European club, Knack Volley Roeselare competes in the Euro Millions Volley League and the CEV Champions League. The club is 14-time winners of the Belgian Championship, 15-time winners of the Belgian Cup, and 10-time winners of the Belgian SuperCup.

Knack Roeselare also captured the silver medal in the CEV Cup in the 2022-23 season.
