WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS SWEEP ASIDE PALADINS SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Box Score Into the final two weekends, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was looking to make their move in the OUA standings.

With the likelihood of a playoff spot secured, the Lakers, with wins in their final four matches and some help, could rocket up the rankings and into a more favourable matchup in the post-season.

In the first of two matches versus the RMC Paladins on the weekend, the Lakers picked up a straight sets sweep, winning 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

It wasn’t the start the Lakers envisioned, as they trailed 9-6 early on in the first set.

They bounced back and climbed back into the match, going ahead 17-15 midway through the opening game.

Up 23-21 late, the Lakers put the set away, winning 25-22.

In the second, it was a dominant effort by Nipissing to go up 2-0.

An early 6-1 lead for Nipissing turned into a 17-2 advantage as the Lakers cruised to a 25-11 win and took a stranglehold on the match, leading 2-0.

In the third, the Lakers led 9-5 early, as they looked to take care of business.

Nipissing expanded their lead to 17-10 midway through the set and didn’t look back, claiming a 25-13 win and the sweep.

Amy Connelly led the Lakers with eight kills, while Oceane Raymond-Leduc added six in the victory.

The same teams wrap up the weekend Sunday, hitting the court at noon at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
