Warriors keep playoff hopes alive with two big wins over TMU and Guelph

The Warriors men’s volleyball team went into the weekend knowing they had to come away with two big wins to keep their playoff hopes alive and the guys responded in a big win earning a 3-2 road win over the TMU Bold while dominating Guelph the next night in straight sets on home court.

Waterloo took out the Bold for the second time on the road in as many weeks, winning another 5-set thriller. Waterloo edged out TMU 15-12 in the fifth set to earn their 7th win of the season. Liam MacArthur (Cambridge, ON/) was unstoppable in the match with 22 kills while adding seven digs. Ben Newell (Brussels, ON/) added 12 kills in the match while Noel Campfens (Toronto, On/) put away nine. Fehin Awobodu (Oakville, ON/) had a very efficient night with six kills on just 11 attempts. Defensively, Campfens led the way with 12 digs while Logan Wenzel (Salt Spring Island, BC/) was on point with his sets earning 46 assists in the win.

On Saturday, the Warriors continued their stellar play of late, dominating Guelph from start to finish (25-17, 25-14, 25-17) to earn the straight set victory on home court. MacArthur again led the charge with 11 more kills while Newell and Campfens each put down eight. For the second straight night, Awobodu had a very efficient night, putting down seven kills on just eight attempts. Wenzel added to his assist total with 35 more giving him 590 on the season, the fourth most in the province. 

Waterloo, who is now 8-2 since the January restart, will need two more big wins in their final weekend of the season as they battle the Queen’s Gaels. Friday night is set for 8pm while Saturday they battle the Gaels starting at 6pm as part of Senior Night.
