The Western Mustangs Fall to the McMaster Marauders 3-0

The Western Mustangs met with the McMaster Marauders at 6:00pm today. 
 
The Mustangs make good progress early in the first set, winning the first point after a double block. The Marauders quickly work to equalise the points. Once the Mustangs push to a 10-6 point score, the Marauders call for a time out. Coming out of the timeout, the Marauders win the first point. A long serve from the Marauders sends the point back to the Mustangs but a block from Maddy Lutes wins the point for the Marauders. A couple points later, Robin Henshaw finds the right-hand side of the court to get a kill and maintain the pressure on the Marauders. A kill from the Marauders puts McMaster in front in the points, causing a timeout called by the Mustangs. Coming out of the timeout, Henshaw equalises the points but a service error from the Mustangs puts the Marauders within three points of taking the opening set. The Marauders push ahead after a timeout to take the opening set 25-21. 
 
After winning the first set of the game, McMaster wins the first point in the second set. Devin Gerth gets the Mustangs on the board early in the second set. A few points later, Hannah Joo puts the Mustangs ahead in the points with a service ace, making the score 2-3 to the Mustangs. Robin Henshaw sends a ball into the McMaster block who send it out of bounds putting the Mustangs one ahead in the points. A few moments later, Lael Harrison finds an empty spot in the middle of the court to keep the pressure on the Marauders. The Marauders push ahead in the points and despite this, the Mustangs equalise after Ava Ebert sends a ball over that is unable to be returned. Devin Gerth sends a ball into the Marauders double block who sent it out of bounds, giving the point to the Mustangs. After a serve from Hannah Joo, a ball sent over by Claire Stewart is unable to be returned by the Marauders, equalising the points at 14-14. The Marauders push ahead by four consecutive points making the score 18-14 causing the Mustangs to call for a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, an attacking error from the Marauders gives a point to the Mustangs. The Mustangs equalise at 18-18, prompting a McMaster timeout. A block from McMaster puts the Marauders one ahead in the points coming out of the timeout. An attacking error from the Mustangs puts the Marauders within four points of the second set win. A kill from Gerth acts as a response to the pressure put on by the Marauders. The Marauders push ahead and get closer to the set win. A kill from Emma McKinnon gets McMaster the second set win with a score of 25-21. 
 
The Western Mustangs win the first point of the third set. The teams trade points early in the third set. Devin Gerth gets the Mustangs within one point of the Marauders after a ball set by Hannah Joo making the score 7-6. Despite the Marauders leading in the points Lael Harrison and Devin Gerth keep the pressure on the Marauders with kills. A few points later McMaster sends a ball into the Mustangs block which goes out of bounds off the Mustangs. When the Marauders push ahead in the points, the Mustangs call for a timeout. A short serve from McMaster coming out of the timeout gives the point to the Mustangs. The Marauders get within five points of the set win after McMaster find an empty spot in the left-hand side of the court. A further kill from Olivia Julien gets the Marauders within four of the set win. An attacking error from the Mustangs sees the Marauders get within three points of the set win. The Mustangs maintain the pressure on the Marauders towards the end of the third set. A block from Ava Ebert sees the Mustangs push the score to 23-17 to the Marauders. An attacking error from the Mustangs puts the Marauders within one point of the win. A double block from McMaster secures the win for the Marauders with a final score of 25-17 in the set. 
 
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 6:00pm in Hamilton.
