Pandas Volleyball talent shining on national and international stage

Not only is the Pandas Volleyball team one of the most consistently successful in Canada, winning their fourth-straight U SPORTS medal with a national bronze in April, the Pandas Volleyball Club has become one of the premier junior development programs in the nation.

Nothing showcases that more than the PVB Club athletes competing both nationally and internationally this summer. Five Club athletes are competing this week for Team Canada at the U19 Pan American Cup in Tulsa Oklahoma, with another two non-travel roster athletes competing at the Canada Cup in Calgary.

Six other Club athletes are also competing for Alberta at the 2022 Canada Games in August in Niagara, Ontario. Additionally, current Pandas varsity setter Justine Kolody will be competing for Team Manitoba at the Canada Summer Games.

Led by Pandas alumnae, and now Calgary Dinos head coach Christine Biggs, five Pandas Club athletes are competing for Canada at the U19 Pan Am Cup in Oklahoma; Ronnie Dickson (Pandas U17), Misha Hameed (Pandas U17), Lydia Johnson (Pandas U17), Abby Guezen (Pandas U18), and Sophia Hansen (Pandas U16).

Current Pandas assistant coach Mike Ling is also a scout for the Canadian squad.

Canada went 1-2 in group play, defeating Peru 3-1, while losing to the US and Mexico 3-0. The Canadians finished 6th, defeating Costa Rica 3-0 in the consolation semifinal, before falling to the Mexicans 3-0.

Two other Pandas Club athletes (Janelle Skinner – Pandas U18, Anya Fehr – Pandas U17), who were named to the non-travel U19 Canadian Roster, competed in Calgary this weekend at the Canada Cup.

Pandas Alumnae, current club coach, and four-time national champion Tashie Macapagal is also coaching at the Canada Cup, leading the 16U North Alberta team to a bronze medal.

Six Club athletes and two current Pandas varsity team athletes will also compete at the 2022 Canada Games in August in Niagara.

Pandas rookie Laila Johnston and fellow U18 Pandas club teammate Bronwyn Ettinger will suit up for Team Alberta. Team Alberta 16U will feature PVB Club athletes Keira Scharfenberg, Raven Ogbodu, and Sophie Paul. Team Alberta 17U will have Megan Kendizora and Alexa Landmark.

The Canada Games will run from August 6th to 21st.
