Outside hitter Reese Evjen commits to women’s volleyball

University of Regina women’s volleyball interim head coach Lee Hamilton announced Tuesday that outside hitter Reese Evjen has committed to the Cougars for the 2023-24 season.

Evjen is originally from Swift Current, but the 6-0 outside hitter captained Saskatoon’s Holy Cross High School to provincial championships in both her Grade 11 and Grade 12 seasons.

“Reese will bring an element of size and physicality to the outside position on the court and will be a great addition in the room,” Hamilton said. “To go along with her high skill level and knowledge of the game, Reese is a wonderful team player and will bring an exuberant personality to the program. She’ll be a fantastic addition to the Cougars and to the University of Regina.”

Evjen also has extensive experience at the provincial level, including helping Team Saskatchewan’s 17U squad to a Tier II bronze medal at the 2022 Canada Cup hosted at Tsuut’ina Nation near Calgary.

At the club level, Evjen started out with the Swift Current Jr. SunDogs before joining the Saskatoon-based Huskie Volleyball Club in 2019. Last summer, Evjen and her HVC Premier team placed second at club provincials and went on to an 11th-place showing at Volleyball Canada’s 18U National Championship in Edmonton.

Evjen plans to enroll in the Faculty of Education at the U of R.
