CALGARY – Recognized as one of the greatest setters to ever suit up for the University of Calgary Dinos men’s volleyball program, Kelly Grosky has been posthumously named to the Canada West Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023-24.

Two additional members of the CW Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023-24 will be announced in the coming weeks.

Grosky joins the Canada West Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023-24, being recognized as one of the greatest setters to ever suit up for the University of Calgary Dinos.

He starred with the Dinos men’s volleyball team in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a multiple-time Canada West All-Star. He racked up an impressive list of accomplishments over his five-year playing career, highlighted by earning both first team All-Canadian status and the Dinos’ male athlete of the year award in 1992.

His crowning achievement came in 1989 when he led Calgary to a perfect season. The Dinos captured the second national men’s volleyball title in school history that year, proclaiming their spot as one of the greatest teams in Canadian university men’s volleyball history with a national title game victory that came on their home court in the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.

While assist totals were not recorded during his playing days, Grosky’s excellence on the court was evident just by watching how he controlled the game. He was recognized with CIS tournament MVP honours during that championship run.

ABOUT THE CANADA WEST HALL OF FAME

For the last century, organized university sport has been a central part of the student experience at institutions across Western Canada. Beginning with the University of Manitoba capturing the first Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union (WCIAU) men’s hockey banner in 1919-20, student-athletes have been competing to reach their full potential in sport and the classroom, while enriching campus life.

To commemorate 100 years of university sport across Western Canada, the Canada West Hall of Fame was created in the spring of 2019. This year’s induction class will be unveiled throughout the 2023-24 season.
