No. 2 Badgers open second half with win over Lakers

ST. CATHARINES – The No. 2-nationally ranked Brock women’s volleyball team held on to defeat the visiting Nipissing Lakers in four sets in their return to Ontario University Athletics (OUA) from the holiday break.
 
The Badgers defeated the Lakers 3-1 (25-12, 25-15, 26-28, 25-22) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 7.
 
Second-year right side Sadie Dick scored a game-high 16 kills coupled with a 5.38 hitting percentage. Dick chipped in five digs and five blocks.
 
Second-year left side Laurin Ainsworth led all players with eight blocks while tallying eight kills.
 
Setters Sara Rohr and Lauren Teehan registered 33 and 15 assists, respectively. Second-year outside hitter Emily Foest posted 12 kills, two aces and eight digs.
 
Brock recorded an overall .321 kill percentage (54-19-109) while posting a .500 (13-for-20) hit rating in the opening set.
 
The Badgers took a two-set lead before the Lakers struck back to narrowly win the third by two points. Brock has dropped only five sets this season.
 
For Nipissing, Paige Owen led her team with nine kills.
 
Brock looks to continue its winning streak when they host Nipissing again at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Sunday, Jan. 8 at noon. Tickets for Brock Badgers home games can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com, while all matches are also streamed online at OUA.tv.
