No. 2 Badgers advance to OUA semifinals

ST. CATHARINES – The No. 2 Brock women’s volleyball team swept the Windsor Lancers 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) to open the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 25.
 
Brock’s trio of second-year outside hitters led the Badgers offence as Madison Chimienti, Laurin Ainsworth and Sadie Dick each posted eight kills.
 
Chimienti added seven digs while Ainsworth recorded a .727 hitting percentage on 11 attempts and Dick tallied three blocks.
 
The defending provincial champion Badgers finished first in the league with a record of 18-2 and are looking forward to the semifinals.
 
“Our strength as a team is that whenever we have a dip in our play everyone comes together and has each other’s backs,” Chimienti said. “We’ve been working so hard with a target on our back’s this season. We’re each other’s best friends and I think it’s important that we have that strong team chemistry when things don’t go our way.”
 
Senior middle Grace Pyatt registered seven kills and four blocks as senior setter Sara Rohr contributed 31 assists. Third-year libero Aleiah Torres led all players with eight digs.
 
Brock hit for .478 (38-6-67) while holding Windsor to a .162 (32-19-80) hitting percentage.
 
Up next, the Badgers will host the winner of York at McMaster on Saturday, March 4. Game time to be announced.
