Men’s Volleyball dominates Warriors; wins in straight sets

The Lancer men’s volleyball team swept the visiting Waterloo Warriors 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 27-25) on Saturday at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

STATS
Windsor was led by Colin Hutchison with 13 kills and 7 digs, while Anthony DeGirolamo contributed 29 assists in the win.

Waterloo was led by Liam MacArthur with 17 kills, Colm Guyn had 27 assists.

GAME FLOW
After a two-hour delay caused by travel weather for the Warriors, the game got underway and was a tight one from the start. The teams traded points to open the game until the Lancers broke away to hold a narrow 16-13 lead at the technical timeout. Going up 20-15, the blue and gold forced Waterloo into a timeout. Windsor continued to control the play until the end, taking the set 25-16.

The second started out exactly like the first with the teams going serve for serve. The game went point for point until a few solid kills from the Lancer offense created some space for the blue and gold, giving them a 16-11 lead at the technical. Their dominance continued through the remainder of the set en route to a 25-21 victory.

In the third, the Warriors came alive and built a 10-4 lead to open the set. From there, the Lancers began to chip away at the visitor lead and made it a three point game at 14-11. The Warriors called a timeout and still led at the technical but the wind had left their sail. Behind the solid play of Colin Hutchison, Windsor turned the tides and tied the game at 24-24. The two squads traded points again, and then with Windsor up by one, a service ace from Hutchison secured the win in dramatic fashion.

UP NEXT
Windsor will head to London on Friday, February 25th to face the Western Mustangs at 8:00pm.
