ELSER EARNS U SPORTS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western outside-hitter Jesse Elser (Calgary) has been named U SPORTS Player of the Week after putting together two well-rounded performances in No. 5-ranked TWU’s weekend sweep over Thompson Rivers.

The Spartans, now holding a record of 17-5 in conference play, were led by Elser’s tough serving throughout the duration of the weekend. Elser accumulated 12 aces in the sweep, with seven of them coming in a four-set victory over TRU on Friday.

This tally of serves now stands as the second most (regular season play) in a single TWU match spanning four sets. The record of nine is currently held by Mathias Elser (Calgary), who set it on Oct. 21, 2022 against Manitoba.

Still, Elser’s serving wasn’t the only thing keeping the Spartans ahead of the WolfPack throughout the duration of the weekend as the fifth-year totalled a sum of 27 kills, adding five blocks as well. Elser only made three errors throughout the weekend sweep over TRU, putting together a .490 hitting percentage on the weekend.

The Spartans wrap up their 2022-23 regular season at No. 9-ranked Brandon (12-10). After that, the reigning Canada West champion Spartans will take on the conference playoffs.
