Bobcats sweep Bisons in straight sets

BRANDON, Man. – The Bobcats made quick work of the Manitoba Bisons Friday night to earn the team’s third straight win over provincial rivals, taking Friday’s contest in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19).

After a back and forth first set, Jake Fleming stepped back to the service line and served six straight points to ice the frame and set the tone for the rest of the match.

Fleming led the match with 30 assists and the Bobcats with five digs, doing it in all aspects of the game.

Tom Friesen and Philipp Lauter each contributed nine kills, while Lauter continued his impressive freshman campaign by adding six aces and three blocks.

Jens Watt had eight kills on just 15 swings as the Bobcats improved to 8-9 in conference play and move one step closer to locking up second place in the Canada West east division standings.

The Bisons were led by Ben Carleton’s match-high 13 kills but fall to 7-10 and sit fourth in the east division standings with just one match to go.

The two teams meet again Saturday in Brandon to conclude the Canada West conference season.

The match is scheduled for 6:45 pm but may be slightly delayed due to the senior night presentations to take place immediately following Saturday’s women’s match.
