YORK WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON AGAINST MCMASTER WITH MUST-WIN GRADUATION GAME

The final regular season game is in sight for the York University Lions men’s volleyball team as they prepare to take on the top OUA seeded McMaster Marauders. Along with wrapping up their regular season, York will celebrate their graduating player, William Deschamps before the game on Friday evening.

A weekend in Windsor, the Lions faced the Windsor Lancers in two games not able to find their roll on Friday evening. York took the opening set lead, but it was not long until the Lancers took the lead away, and extended their gap midway through the set. Taking a 20-14 lead, the Lions tried to battle back into it but Windsor won the first set, 25-19. The Lancers carried on their momentum the remainder of the game, earning a 25-16 before wrapping up the game in three sets, 3-0.

In the Lancers senior night on Saturday, they came out with some steam taking an early 9-3 lead, before taking the first set 25-15. Playing a similar second set to the first, the Lancers had a 2-0 lead, but the third set, the Lions had turned things around. York had an 8-1 run that gained them a lead in the set, and they pulled away to take set three, 25-21, and bring the game within one. Fighting to win the fourth, the Lancers got back in their groove and after an intense battle needing extra points, Windsor defeated York 3-1.

#13 ALEX KO: Second-year outside hitter… Playing in 17 matches and 61 sets, he led the Lions against the Windsor Lancers with 23 total kills for the weekend, tallying a seasons high 16 kills, 34 total attacks, and 20.0 points on Feb. 10… He has recorded 109 kills on 271 total attacks, 13 assists and 287 receptions, while tallying 133.0 points on the year.

#20 RICHARD HOUSEN JR: Third-year middle blocker… In 13 matches played and 39 sets of action, he has 39 kills on 86 total attacks, 21 total blocks (13 solo, eight assist), and nine digs… Against the Windsor Lancers on Feb. 10, the recorded a seasons high eight kills, 10 total attacks, .800 hitting percentage and 9.5 points, marking it as his best performance of the season.
