WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS LAND SETTER LAMOTHE FROM MAVERICK VOLLEYBALL

The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team has added a consistent and stabilizing recruit with their latest signing.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the addition of setter Maddy Lamothe, who will join the program ahead of the 2023-24 OUA season.

Lamothe is a skilled distributor who will join Nipissing after a successful run with Ottawa Maverick Volleyball Club and Ottawa Maverick Broncos at the club level, as well as St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School.

The newest member of the Lakers is excited about the next chapter in both her athletic and academic career.

“Both indoors and outdoors, Nipissing University is a perfect fit for me. It has the exact program I am seeking and a small town setting surrounded by nature,” she said of the school and campus. “Coach Marc’s style and the talent on the team made Nipissing the right choice for me.”

Hailing from Winchester, ON, Lamothe suited up for Team Ontario in 2021 and her and team finished ninth at provincials in 2022, as well as fifth at nationals the same year.

She will be enrolling in the Environmental Biology & Technology on the academic side when school begins in September.

Offensively and defensively, Lamothe provides stability and hard work, finding a way to contribute to success on the court.

“I am known for my consistency, focus, team support and fighting to never let a ball drop,” she said.

Lakers head coach Marc LaRochelle has added a piece for the coming years and is excited to add Lamothe, adding he’s eager to work with her and continue her development at the next level.

“We are excited to add Maddy to our setting core,” LaRochelle said. “I think academically this is the perfect fit for Maddy and on the court I know Maddy will work on continuing to develop her game at the next level. Maddy is a wonderful person and teammate and will be a perfect fit within the confines of our strong team culture.”

While Lamothe may have to wait a few months to actually step on the court with the Lakers, she is already mentally preparing for her time at Nipissing.

She has set goals early on and is preparing to take on the challenges ahead of her.

“I am looking to develop a strong bond with teammates and making a difference on the team. I’m looking to become a better athlete overall and continue to challenge myself,” she explained.
