WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS ADD LOCAL RECRUIT BY SIGNING GOODE

The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was able to keep a talented local student-athlete close to home with their latest signing.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the addition of North Bay, ON native Mya Goode, who will join the program for the 2022-23 OUA season.

Entering the BPHE program, Goode is thrilled with the idea of staying close to home, earning an education as well as playing volleyball with the Lakers.

“The volleyball program was a huge factor in choosing Nipissing. Last fall, I attended a Lakers camp where I was exposed to university level volleyball. I met with coaching staff and team members which seemed to be a great fit,” Goode explained.

The talented outside hitter, who suited up for Algonquin Secondary School, Chippewa Secondary School and the NBYVC Lakers also participated in the Ontario Summer Games.

She will bring a good attitude and outlook to the program, looking to contribute to the success and progress of the team.

“I would describe myself as a driven and focused player with a competitive nature. I feel I have a strong skill set which allows me to aggressively attack the net and quickly transition into a defensive role,” she explained.

Lakers head coach Marc LaRochelle is excited to add Goode to the program and keep one of the talented local athletes in town.

“It will be great to get Mya training in our high performance environment,” said LaRochelle. “I think this will be important for her development as the game at the USports level is higher, faster and better around the block. It always takes time to adjust to the next level, but I look forward to watching Mya grow and develop over the years.”

And while there are challenges ahead, Goode believes they are also opportunities to grow as a person and athlete and is looking forward to the next chapter in her volleyball career.

“I am committed to personal skill development/fitness and will strive to encourage/challenge my teammates,” Good noted. “I want to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the program’s values, culture and recent success. I feel this is the right place to develop personally and academically, while making life-long friendships along the way.”
