VB: Senior review

Join the Mount Royal Cougars in celebrating our women’s and men’s volleyball graduating seniors at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.; respectively on Saturday, Feb. 11! Check out their achievements below:

Women’s Volleyball: 

#17 Madison Marshal – Mount Royal University Cougars Athletics would like to congratulate Maddy Marshall on her four years played with the MRU women’s volleyball program. Originally from Brooks, Alberta – Maddy has been recognized as being an Academic All Canadian 3 years in row from 2019-22 seasons. Maddy was also a Canada West 2021-22 First Team All Star. Over her four years with the Cougars women’s volleyball program, Maddy has played a total of 62 matches, recorded 599 kills and 520 digs. Maddy has brought a passion for the game that will continue to be felt in the Cougars program long after she leaves. She has been such a great leader and an integral part of the recent success of this program. The Cougars feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her. Mount Royal would like to congratulate Maddy on graduating this year from the Faculty of Health and Physical Education! We wish her the best in her future endeavours!

#12 Haley Roe – The Cougars would like to congratulate Haley Roe on her 6 years played with the MRU women’s volleyball program. Local talent from Airdrie, Alberta, Haley has been recognized as being an Academic All Canadian 3 years in row from 2019-22. In total, Haley has played 101 matches and has recorded 720 kills and 517 digs throughout her 6 years with the Cougars women’s volleyball team. Haley brough a joy and passion to the gym everyday, that was infectious, and was a very important component to the team. She is an exceptional volleyball player, student, teammate and friend. Her presence in the locker room, on the road and in the gym will be greatly missed. Mount Royal would like to congratulate her on graduating this year with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and wish her the best of luck to her in future endeavors!

#2 Chloe Shum – Cougars Athletics would like to congratulate setter Chloe Shum on her four years with the Cougars women’s volleyball team! Chloe has played in 146 sets through 62 matches with the Cougars racking up 56 assists and 54 digs. The London, Ontario native has been recognized as an Academic All-Canadian three times throughout her tenure with the Cougars in 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. Chloe has also played a significant role on our Cougars Athlete Board servicing as the VP, Diversity and Inclusion. Chloe has always led the Cougars by example, in all the years she has been here. She is hard working, motivated and full of energy. Chloe has taken on every task that has been asked of her in her time here, puts her team well before herself, and put everything she had into this program. She has been an absolute joy to work with. Thank you for all of your contributions Chloe, we wish you all the best as you graduate from the Health and Physical Education program this year!
 
#8 Quinn Pelland – Captain Quinn Pelland has been an instrumental part of the Cougars women’s volleyball program for the past several years. Born and raised in Wanham, Alberta, she was named to the Canada West First Team All-Star and the U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian during the 2021-22 season. Quinn was also an Academic All-Canadian during the 2017-18 season and has achieved this award every year since. Throughout her tenure with the Cougars women’s volleyball team Quinn has accumulated a staggering 3,422 assists and 1,019 digs in 103 matches. Quinn has been the pillar of this program for many years. Her care for her teammates, her drive to learn and get better, and her leadership have been instrumental in forming the identity of this team. The mark she has left on this program will carry forward, as we have all learned from her what it truly means to be a Cougar. She will be missed, but her legacy will certainly live on here at Mount Royal for years to come. As a soon to be graduate from the Business program, we congratulate Quinn on her accomplishments with the Mount Royal Cougars!
 
#11 Nyadholi Thokbuom – The Mount Royal University Cougars would like to congratulate Nyadholi Thokbuom on five years with the Cougars women’s volleyball team! Born and raised in Calgary, Dholi has racked up 760 kills, 288 blocks and 85 service aces throughout 89 matches in her career. In 2019 Dholi was also named to the Canada West All-Rookie team. Dholi has always been such a joy to work with. Her physical presence at the net is what makes people take notice, but inside the locker room, it’s her caring way, love for her teammates and joy for the game that makes her so special to the team. Dholi will be missed by everyone here at Mount Royal. The Cougars wish Nyadholi a successful future as she graduates from the Sociology program this year!

All five graduating athletes were also major contributors to the Women’s Volleyball team earning bronze in Canada West Championships and silver U SPORTS Nationals last year. You leave an incredible legacy behind as the first team in MRU Canada West/ U SPORTS era history to medal in U SPORTS Nationals. Congratulations ladies!

Men’s Volleyball: 

#9 Jackson Brennan – The Mount Royal University Cougars would like to congratulate Jackson Brennan on his six years with the Men’s volleyball program! A local prospect from Bragg Creek, Jackson has been a role model both on the court and in school for his teammates. Jackson has accumulated 1,359 assists and 223 digs over 79 matches with the cougars men’s volleyball team. We wish Jackson all the best as he graduates from the business program this year!
