UK sitting volleyball to benefit from newly-launched National Squads Support Fund

The Team GB sitting volleyball programme is receiving a major financial boost from UK Sport with the launch of a National Squads Support Fund.

Sitting volleyball is one of the two Paralympic sports UK Sport named to benefit from a £2.4 million investment to support their international campaign and strengthen their chances in the Paralympic Games. A total of £375,000 will be awarded to the Team GB sitting volleyball programme.

“The National Squads Support Fund is a key part of our new investment approach and demonstrates our commitment to a wider group of sports and athletes in our Olympic and Paralympic high-performance community.

“We are investing in a longer-term, holistic view of success, powering a broader range of sports, champions and medallists, built on the highest standards of integrity and partnership,” said UK Sport chief executive Sally Munday.

UK Sport offers the National Squads Support Fund to summer Olympic and Paralympic sports that did not benefit from its World Class Programme or Progression funding in the lead-up to Tokyo 2020. The Team GB sitting volleyball teams last made an appearance in the Paralympic Games at London 2012 and are looking to work their way back at Paris 2024.

“The British Volleyball Federation is pleased with the award made by UK Sport. It will provide us with a way forward to compete and train as we prepare for Paris 2024 and gives our players an increased incentive by being recognised.

“We thank UK Sport for having the vision to recognise the value of helping unfunded sports on the first steps to future success. Creating the National Squads Support Fund is a great move in the right direction. We look forward to showing what we can achieve,” British Volleyball Federation President Richard Callicott OBE said.

World ParaVolley is recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the sole International Federation responsible for the governance, planning and management of volleyball for persons with a physical impairment.
