LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week in Sparta has all the indoor teams in action with women’s hockey and volleyball at home while basketball and men’s hockey are on the road, with women’s rugby hosting a seven’s tournament on Saturday at home.

  • The Spartans are coming off a bye week as they return to action this week against the Cougars.
  • Last week the Cougars swept the MacEwan. They defeated the Griffins 4-1 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday in Edmonton.
  • The Spartans are 1-10 lifetime against the Cougars.
  • The last time the Cougars and the Spartans met was in the Canada West quarter-final at MRU in Calgary last season. TWU lost the best of three series 2-1 to the eventual U SPORTS champion Cougars.

  • The Spartans are undefeated at 8-0 in Canada West, while the Huskies are 5-3.
  • Last week Trinity Western defeated Regina 3-1 on both nights in Regina, Sask.
  • Last week Saskatchewan split with UBC Okanagan defeating the Heat 3-0 on Friday, before losing 3-1 on Saturday in Kelowna, B.C.
  • The Spartans are 36-18 lifetime against the Huskies.
  • In their last meeting the Spartans and Huskies split the weekend series on January 13-14 in Saskatoon, Sask. With TWU losing 3-1 on Friday and winning 3-0 on Saturday.

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country, and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men’s rugby, as well as women’s and men’s disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 13 U SPORTS team championships and 32 Canada West team championships.
