No. 3 Brock overcome adversity in five set victory

WATERLOO – Facing a fifth set in an OUA regular season match for the first time since February 2020, the No. 3 nationally ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 on the road Friday night. Set scores for the match were 26-24, 27-25, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13.
 
An exciting tightly contested match throughout all five sets, Brock was able to find an advantage at the service line and on defence. The Badgers notched seven service aces to just three for the Warriors, while also registering more digs, 78-65.
 
Second-year outside hitters Sadie Dick and Madison Chimienti were impressive in the win, each surpassing 15 points and 15 kills. Dick led the team with 18 points from 16 kills, one ace, and two block assists, while Chimienti finished with 17.5 points from 17 kills and one block assist.
 
Adding to the teams offensive outputs, middles Christina Jovetic and Grace Pyatt registered 15.5 and 12.5 points each.
 
Sara Rohr notched a game-high 60 assists in guiding the Badgers offence through the five set thriller, while libero Aleiah Torres recorded 26 digs defensively. Not to be missed, both Rohr and Emily Foest were also strong on defence, adding 13 and 15 digs each.
 
Warriors outside hitter Sarah Glynn led all players with a game-high 28 points from 25 kills, one ace, and four block assists. Waterloo setter Claire Gagne finished the night with 46 assists, while Avery Kelly topped all Warriors with 22 digs.
 
The Badgers return home to Bob Davis Gym this Sunday, Nov. 20 where they will face the McMaster Marauder. The first serve is at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at brocku.universitytickets.com, with the game also being streamed on OUA.TV.
