MVB RECAP: Gryphons Remain Unbeaten With 3-1 Win Over Nipissing

GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men’s volleyball team hosted the Nipissing Lakers for the second time in as many nights Saturday (Nov. 11), playing to a 3-1 victory to remain unbeaten through four games this season. It was another impressive performance from the Gryphons who after dropping the first set battled back in a closely contested match to claim the win. Set scores were 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20. 

Standout outside hitter and All-Canadian talent, Johnny Pickett, produced his best performance of this season thus far, totaling 23 points with 19 kills and a .341 hitting percentage. It was a strong team performance as well, with three other Gryphons reaching double-digit point totals. Fourth-year Burlington native Alexander Odle was a key piece to the Gryphon win. Coming off the bench Olde went on to score 16 points thanks to 14 kills and two solo blocks. Cameron Chadwick and Joshua Glasbergen also matched or surpassed 10 points, with Chadwick responsible for 11.5 and Glasbergen 10. Setter Thomas Pugsley had an impressive performance setting up teammates for 39 kill assists while also producing 4 kills of his own. 

The Gryphons (4-0) will now head to Peterborough next weekend for a pair of matches against the Trent Excalibur before heading to Toronto to take on the York Lions. The next Gryphon home action will take place on December 1st and 2nd when the McMaster Marauders come to town.
