Julia Sawatzky, Volleyball

Julia Sawatzky closed the first semester with a remarkably consistent string of play.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers’ right side had four straight solid matches, posting 16, 20, 11 and 13 kills as the Blazers went into the break at 3-6.
The second-year Blazer is the last MCAC female athlete of the week in 2023.
“Julia was dominant in all technical aspects of the game, but her mental fortitude and competitive spirit made the greatest impact on the outcome of both matches,” said Blazers head coach Jayme Menzies.
Sawatzky nearly brought her team over the finish line in back-to-back five-set losses to Assiniboine Community College (6-3) last weekend. She had an impressive. 467 and .390 hitting percentage in those matches, adding 21 digs.
A week later, she led her team in kills on both nights and had three key aces in a 3-2 win over the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (0-9).
Sawatzky added 21 digs on the weekend, which included a 3-1 loss to Providence University College (9-0).
The season resumes on Jan. 12 when CMU visits ACC and USB hosts PUC.
