First Semester Highlights – Camosun Chargers

The defending PACWEST women’s volleyball champion Camosun Chargers really started to hit their stride just before the holiday break with four straight victories.  They enter the break at 6-4, tied for second, four points back of the top spot in the standings.

Head coach Brent Hall explains two of their many first half highlights.

After a slow start to the season, our breakout match was a 3-0 win, Friday November 10th, at VIU. Following some tough losses, the team focussed on training with more intent and effort. That paid off quickly by closing the loop on a number of things we’d been working on improving in training. The team finally came together to compete as a unit that night and showed a lot of resilience.  Since that win the Chargers are 4-1.

Erica Bolink capped off a fantastic semester with 26 kills against Douglas College in their last match. After starting the season with some below average performances on offense and from the service line, she found a groove and showed that she is one of the Conference’s top leftsides. She rose to the top of the PACWEST charts in kills (161) and total offense (190), as well as becoming their most reliable serve receiver and a smart defender.

The Chargers will resume their season on January 19th at the College of the Rockies.  The last time they were on this floor they raised their first ever PACWEST championship banner.
