Badgers best Bold on second straight night

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The TMU Bold men’s volleyball team took the opening set in their second match of the weekend against the Brock Badgers, but ultimately fell 3-1 on Saturday night.

After being swept on Friday night, the Bold came out strong in the first set, racking up 13 kills to just three errors. Their strong attack was led by middle Day Westell who had five kills in the set, after posting just four kills in Friday’s match.

The Bold took the opening set 25-19 and looked primed for their first victory of the season.

However, in the second set the Badgers activated their blocking game and jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. Brock’s early momentum guided them to a second set win, tying the match at 1-1.

In the third, the Bold rallied from being down 18-16 to tie the set at 20-20. Down the stretch, both teams had chances to end the set, but it was the Badgers who finally finished the set at 28-26 to take a 2-1 match lead.

Both teams had an efficient attack in the fourth, but Brock outhit the Bold with 16 kills to TMU’s 11 to take the final set 25-21 to take the 3-1 victory.

TMU’s Alex King led all players with 18 kills on the night, while Westell finished with a game-high four blocks.

The Bold, still searching for their first win of the season, return home to host the RMC Paladins on November 17.
