Wiebe named first team all-star

Following an outstanding senior season, Bobcat captain Rayvn Wiebe is being recognized as one of the conference’s best.

The Morden, Man. product was named a Canada West first team all-star Wednesday morning concluding her Bobcat career with the highest individual accolade she has earned yet.

“I am so happy that Rayvn finally gets the recognition she deserves,” says head coach Lee Carter.

“She is one of the best all-around student athletes I have ever had the honour to work with. She is an incredible role model for our team and community and am thrilled that she’s being recognized by the conference for her excellent season.”

Wiebe finished fourth in the conference in total points (257.5) and points per set (4.1) in leading the Bobcats back to the post-season.

In her final home match, she put up a season-high 24 kills, which would have been a school record had she not set the school record two years ago, notching an astonishing 28 kills back in November of 2019.

Wiebe was named the conference’s player of the week following the team’s sweep of Manitoba to conclude the first half of the season.

A starter for nearly her entire career, Wiebe leaves third all-time in Brandon University women’s volleyball history with 979 career kills.

She also becomes just the third in program history to earn first team all-conference honours, joining Teagan Hunter (2010-11) and Donata Huebert (2013-14 & 2014-15).
