Daniel Thiessen has been named the Canada West conference’s men’s volleyball player of the week after two more standout performances last week against Brandon.

The fifth-year right side averaged 18.5 kills and two double-doubles as the Wesmen earned a split with the Bobcats in a home-and-home series.

On Friday at the Duckworth Centre, Thiessen had 15 kills, 13 digs and six block assists in a five-set loss. He hit .290 and was second on the team with 18.5 points.

He saved his best for the return match Saturday in Brandon, notching 22 kills and 14 digs while hitting .333 for the match. It was his fourth match this season — and the 12th for his career — with at least 20 kills.

He also added one block assist.

For the weekend, he averaged 20.5 points, 18.5 kills and 13.5 digs.

This is the first player of the week honour for Thiessen, who was an all-Canadian in 2019-20.

The Wesmen are off this week before heading to Saskatoon for a Feb. 11-12 showdown with the Saskatchewan Huskies.
