Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – The TCC is set for a pair of important games when the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team plays host to the Trinity Western Spartans.

The WolfPack (9-7) will host the Spartans (9-7) – who enter the weekend ranked No. 9 in the country –  at 6:45 p.m. on  Thursday and 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The games are the makeup games that were originally scheduled for December 2 and 3 before being postponed.

With both teams currently tied for the eighth and final playoff spot, the contests will go a long way in determining the postseason picture.

A sweep of the UBC Okanagan Heat inside the TCC last weekend gave TRU their fifth win in the past six games.

TRU won both games by identical scores of 3-2 as a veteran ‘Pack squad outlasted UBCO en route to helping the school capture its first Presidents’ Cup title since the 2019-20 season.

TWU split a pair of games at home with the Brandon Bobcats in the last action. The Spartans earned a 3-1 victory on Friday before falling 3-2 on Saturday. TWU is 4-2 since the winter break.

The Spartans won both games that these teams played in Langley last season.

By The Numbers

4.14 & 3.84: In a battle between two of the best attackers in the conference, Henry Rempel of TWU and his 4.14 kills-per-set and TRU’s Sam Flowerday with 3.84 enter the weekend fourth and fifth in the conference respectively.

2,000: Last weekend setter Sam Elgert became just the second player in program history to reach 2,000 career CW assists.

70: Nobody in the conference has played more sets than TRU at 70.
