Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team is looking to make it a perfect weekend when they hit the court Sunday afternoon.
Coming off a solid win Saturday, the Lakers are once again hosting the RMC Paladins at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
Another straight sets victory saw the Lakers top the Paladins 3-0 to wrap up a 2-0 weekend in their final home matches of the regular season.
The Lakers began on the right foot, jumping out to a 12-6 lead early and extending their advantage to 16-7 midway through the opening game.
Nipissing managed to keep RMC at bay, going ahead 20-13 late in the set and clinching the win, 25-16, to open up the match.
In the second, another strong start saw the Lakers grab an 11-7 lead on the Paladins, looking to seize control of the game and match.
The Lakers didn’t look back, leading 20-12 late before once again putting things away neatly, winning 25-15.
Leading 2-0 heading into the third set, RMC came out strong in the third, attempting to avoid the sweep and prolong the match.
They led the Lakers 11-8 early on, but Nipissing battled back and took a 15-13 lead into the middle stages of the set.
Down the stretch, the Lakers managed to stay out in front of RMC and outscored them 10-7 to close out the third set, winning 25-20, sweeping the match.
Justice Smith led the Lakers with 14 kills, while Taydon Shantz and Marc Marchand each had five in the victory.
The Lakers wrap up the regular season on the road, facing the Trent Excalibur twice next weekend in Peterborough.
