Mariners Earn Another Sweep

The top ranked VIU Mariners made quick work of the visiting Capilano Blues on Friday winning in three sets 25-15, 25-13 and 25-22.  It’s their fifth clean sweep of the season and their 12th straight victory.  Their offence was led by Regan Ingram who was brilliant with 21 kills and Aimee Skinner collected 15 and added three service aces.

The Mariners will host the Blues again on Saturday.

Bearcats Hold Chargers

Fighting for their playoff lives, the CBC Bearcats played a gutsy road match and took down the Chargers at Camosun in four sets 25-20, 25-21, 17-25 and 25-22.  The victory brings them into a fourth-place tie with the Chargers in the battle for the final playoff spot.

The Bearcats have now won two in a row while the Chargers drop their fifth straight allowing the Bearcats to gain some ground.

SATURDAY

Sweeping Saturday

On Saturday the Mariners said good morning, good afternoon and goodnight to the Blues earning yet another three-set sweep.  They handed the visitors a 25-15, 25-22 and 25-19 loss, scoring their 16th win of the campaign and sixth sweep. They also earned the seasonal series sweep over the Blues dropping only one set over the course of four matches.  Aimee Skinner led the way with 12 kills, 12 digs and three service aces and Megan Duffy added eight more kills.

Kiana Gelissen tallied four stuff blocks on the defensive side.

The Blues losing streak extends to four matches, losing three of them courtesy of the sweep.

Next weekend both schools wrap up the regular season.  The Mariners (16-2) host the CBC Bearcats (7-11) and the Blues (8-10) stay on the road and visit the COTR Avalanche (4-14).

Chargers Bounce Back

After losing in four sets on Friday night the Chargers bounced back on Saturday to claim a four-set victory over their own, beating the Bearcats 25-15, 17-25, 25-20 and 25-21.   The Chargers win the seasonal series 3-1.

With the win the Chargers pull into a third-place tie with the Capilano Blues with the Bearcats just two points behind in the ultra-tight women’s PACWEST standings.

Next weekend the Chargers (8-10) head to Douglas to face the Royals (11-7) and the Bearcats (7-11) visit the VIU Mariners (16-2). The fight for the final playoff spots in going to come down to the final weekend of the season.
