LIONS LOOK TO END MARAUDERS RUN, EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE

The York University Lions have made tremendous strides this season, shattering their combined win total from the last two seasons and sitting firmly in a playoff position. They can truly show those strides on Saturday night when the McMaster Marauders come back to town, still as the only undefeated team in the country.

If the Lions change that, they’ll do themselves a big favour heading into the final weekend against Windsor as they look to lock down a home playoff game. It, clearly, will be far from an easy task. The Marauders beat the Lions in four sets the last time they faced them on Jan. 21, and York has since reeled off four consecutive wins.

So, as they say – something’s got to give.

Players to Watch

York:

#3 SHAUN SCHONERT: First-year outside hitter… Put up his two best games as a Lion last weekend in the victories over Trent and Guelph… Posted a career-high seven kills in three sets on Friday at Trent, and then matched it the following day at Guelph… Also had a solid weekend defensively with eight and seven digs, respectively, in the two matches.

#14 ANDREW TAUHID: Fifth-year outside hitter… Put up a season-best 21 kills in the Lions win over the Gryphons on Saturday… That came a day after matching his previous season-high of 20, which was set the game prior against Brock… Tauhid has been enormous all season for the Lions, but, as the numbers bear out, appears to have saved his best volleyball for the most crucial time of year.

McMaster:
#14 WOJCIECH KAJ: Fourth-year middle hitter… Has had a solid all-around season for the Marauders… Is tied for second on the club in kills… Also has 41 kills, which ranks him fifth on the team… He’s put up consistent numbers all season, but been quiet of late with only seven kills in the last two games….
