Bold rally from down two sets to knock off Warriors

WATERLOO, Ont. – The TMU Bold women’s volleyball team was in Waterloo for game one of their doubleheader weekend against the Waterloo Warriors, and hoped to open the weekend with a win.

Right away, the Bold took control of the game, with the Warriors slowly trailing behind. The home side was able to find their footing and the Warriors snuck past the Bold, going up in score by a few points. The Bold couldn’t secure the first set but headed to the second hoping to level the score.

Scarlett Gingera came out with a clean game of volleyball, with little to no errors, and finished the night with 15 kills.

The Bold spent the second set building up consistent plays, but like the first, they were not able to finish in the second.

Going into the third, the Bold were grasping for another chance at taking the win home. The Bold fell to a few serving and rotation errors but rallied, thanks in part to some strong serving from Ashley Ditchfield. She registered two aces on the night.

The Warriors called their final timeout in the third set when the Bold lead 19-12. After an electric lead in the third set, the Bold pushed through to the fourth, giving them another opportunity to win.

Both teams juggled the lead during the fourth, making this a tight game of volleyball, not knowing which team will get the next point.

Mary Rioflorido stayed on top of her game when it came to digs, and saved the ball whenever she could. She finished the match with 10 digs.

In the final few points of the fourth set, the tension was building. Both teams had no intention of giving up, and the Bold were ready to make a huge comeback, rallying from match point to take the set 26-24 to extend the game to the fifth set.

The Bold put everything they had into the final set of the night, after a very difficult, and tight match.

With powerful kills from Lauren Veltman and Scarlett Gingera, the Bold were able to take a big lead in the fifth.

The Bold were not far from taking this win, and relied on their blocks to deny the Warriors from advancing.

After losing the first two sets, the Bold completed the comeback and took the win in a final set by a score of 15-10.

The Bold are back on the court on Saturday to face the Warriors one more time at 4:00 p.m.
