Wildcard positions have been determined for the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s and Women’s Volleyball National Championships.
This season, wildcard spots in CCAA Women’s Volleyball will go to second-place teams from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
The 2019 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Niagara College in Welland, ON.
Last March, the wildcard VIU Mariners of the PACWEST were crowned CCAA National Champions in Grande Prairie, AB.
Meanwhile, wildcard positions in CCAA Men’s Volleyball will be awarded to teams from the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA). The ACAC currently rank first in the wildcard standings but as the host conference, they relinquish their wildcard spot.
The 2019 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Red Deer College in Red Deer, AB.
Last March, the wildcard Keyano Huskies of the ACAC captured a bronze medal with a five-set victory over the host Camosun Chargers in Victoria, BC.
CCAA Men’s & Women’s Volleyball National Championships consist of eight teams: Five provincial champions, two wildcards and the host.
The wildcard positions are awarded to CCAA member conferences based on their performance at national championships over the past three years. Conferences awarded wildcard positions are eligible to send a second team to Nationals. A conference may not fill more than two spots at a CCAA national championship, which therefore excludes the host conference from being eligible for wildcards.
