WVB: Teams cement places in Final Four; schedule released

Only four teams remain in the Canada West Women’s Volleyball Playoffs after two weeks of intense action. Round Two over the weekend saw versatile, adapt-on-the-fly game play doubled with dramatic victories and seesaw thrillers.

After it all, Alberta, Mount Royal, British Columbia and Trinity Western are the teams left fighting.

They’ll match up in the Final Four based on their performance in Round Two, with the top seed of each pool drawing the second seed of the other.

Alberta, as the Round Two pool winner with the stronger regular season record, will host the games. Semi-finals go Friday while the bronze medal and Championship games are set for Saturday.

Final Four

Friday, March 18

1:00 pm — Alberta (Pool D winner) vs. Mount Royal (Pool E runner-up)

3:00 pm — British Columbia (Pool E winner) vs. Trinity Western (Pool D runner-up)

Saturday, March 19

1:00 pm — Bronze Medal Match

3:00 pm — Gold Medal Match

POOL D

Alberta: 3-0 win vs UBCO, 3-2 win vs TWU

UBCO vs ALB: Alberta put on a show against UBCO in their opening game of Round Two, hitting from all over the floor to sweep the Heat. Full game recap here.

ALB vs TWU: A five set thriller with the Trinity Western Spartans saw the Pandas come out the victor, as they upset the country’s top-ranked team. Full game recap here.

Trinity Western: 3-1 win vs UBCO, 2-3 loss vs ALB

UBCO vs TWU: Trinity Western showed its resilience in this game, coming back after dropping a the first set to UBCO to beat the Heat in four. Full game recap here.

ALB vs TWU: The country’s top-ranked team battled through this intense five-game match before falling to the Pandas. Full game recap here.

POOL E

Mount Royal: 3-1 win vs CGY, 2-3 loss vs UBC

CGY vs MRU: Mount Royal came out aggressively in this one, tucking their cross-town opponents away in four tidy sets. Full game recap here.

UBC vs MRU: Mount Royal couldn’t quite outlast British Columbia in this five-set thriller. Full game recap here.

British Columbia: 3-0 win vs CGY, 3-2 win vs MRU

CGY vs UBC: British Columbia proved their skill and savvy in a dominant sweep over Calgary. Full game recap here.

UBC vs MRU: British Columbia was able to dig deep when it mattered, taking a close five-set match over the hometown Cougars. Full game recap here.
