MRU Cougars:
The Cougars showed a dominant performance in Round 1 of action defeating the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat and the University of Manitoba Bisons before meeting the hosting Saskatchewan Huskies. The Cougars handed the Huskies their second loss of Round 1 and an early playoff exit after a 3-0 match. This win perfected MRU’s weekend record and earned hosting rights for Round 2 of playoff action.

Calgary Dinos:
After opening round-robin action with losses to the Brandon Bobcats and Trinity Western Spartans, the Dinos’ backs were against the wall. But, they came out swinging Saturday against the hometown UFV Cascades. The Dinos (then 0-2) found themselves in a must-win situation in enemy territory. The Cascades defended their turf early, exchanging sets one and two with the Dinos. Calgary edged UFV out 3-1 to earn their spot in the next round and due to a tie-breaker procedure the Cascades come away empty-handed.

UBC Thunderbirds:
Going head-to-head with the University of Alberta Pandas to earn the title of Round 1 round-robin champion, the Thunderbirds came away victorious 3-1. In the most intense action Pool B had seen thus far, the UBC Thunderbirds took down host Alberta Pandas in four sets. Both teams performed at a high rate of efficiency, making every swing and dig count. They also both locked in on the defensive ends, making this an entertaining conclusion to Pool B play.
