Women’s Volleyball lose heartbreaker to Toronto in five sets

Queen’s Women’s Volleyball went the distance with the Toronto Varsity Blues in the OUA East Final Wednesday in Toronto, Ont., ultimately losing 3-2 (14-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-27, 10-15).

After dropping the first set, the Gaels won the next two and forced the third set to extra points before the Varsity Blues tied the game and won in the fifth set.

Hannah Duchesneau (Sharon, Ont.) led the Gaels with 15 kills, six blocks, and two aces, while adding 14 digs.

Mary Stewart (Uxbridge, Ont.) finished with 10 kills and 12 digs while Saffron van der Linde (Vancouver, B.C.) recorded 10 kills and three blocks.

Lauryn Colpitts (Fredericton, N.B.) had a team-high 44 assists while Vivian Zanutel (Toronto, Ont.) finished with a team-high 25 digs.

Toronto advanced to the Quigley Cup and will play for the OUA Championship after the win.
