WEEKEND PREVIEW: Hockey, volleyball continue home stand

It’s another action-packed weekend on campus with plenty at stake! Here’s what to expect on the court and rink:

WOMEN’S HOCKEY (7 pm Friday, 2 pm Saturday, click here for tickets)
-The Herd are 4-5-1 in their last ten games, currently sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot with nine points.
-Their opponent Calgary is just two points behind for sixth, led by forward Courtney Kollman, who’s tied for fifth in the conference with nine points.
-Defenceman Camille Enns leads all Bisons with nine points, which is a new career high (eight was her previous best). Her seven assists are also a career high.
Ashley Keller leads all Manitoba players with four goals, after a goal and an assist last weekend against Regina. She’s scored at least four goals in every season with Manitoba, and has 14 overall as a Bison.
-No power play unit in the conference has tallied more shots than Manitoba, with 52 on the season. 

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL (6 pm Friday, 5 pm Saturday, click here for tickets)
-The Herd are ranked No. 9 in the nation and enter the weekend in a logjam for third in CanWest at 4-2, while Mount Royal is 1-5.
-This is the first meeting between the two sides since Manitoba upset the CanWest runners up in the quarterfinals of nationals last year. 
-Six-foot two middle Emma Boyd leads the way for MRU with 44 kills and 20 blocks.
-Fourth-year libero Julia Arnold reached elite company in the team’s last series, entering the 1k club. Her 1,013 total digs are just 403 away from two-time All-Canadian and national champ Marni Rauhaus.
-No team in CanWest has more digs per set than Manitoba, at 15.68. Four players have at least 50, led by Arnold’s 69.
-Second-year left side Raya Surinx leads CanWest with 88 kills, and 4.63 kills per set.
-Setter Katreena Bentley is second in CanWest, with 9.79 assists per set.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL (7:45 pm Friday, 6:45 pm Saturday, click here for tickets)
-Manitoba and Mount Royal are tied at 3-3 in the standings. The Herd are coming off a home split against 4-2 Calgary while MRU was swept by 5-3 Alberta. 
-MRU is led by Team Canada NextGen selection and 2022-23 Team MVP Chris Byam. The fourth-year outside hitter recorded 22 kills in each of the Cougar’s games against UBC to start the season, missing last week.
-Bisons libero Josh Jehle leads CanWest in digs (57) and digs per set (2.48).
-The ‘Zoons are second in blocks per set, at 2.76, led by Jonah Dueck, whose 1.58 are tops in the conference.
