Warriors fall short in OUA semi’s to Queen’s

After what was one of their most successful seasons in program history (16-4 record) women’s volleyball came up just short in the OUA semifinals on Saturday at the PAC against a red-hot Queen’s Gaels team. After sweeping the Western Mustangs in the OUA quarter-finals, Queen’s kept their momentum going with another 3-0 win over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Queen’s took a very tight first set 25-22 before winning the next two 25-18, 25-13.

Leading the way for Waterloo was Sarah Glynn (Fredericton, NB) and Jennifer Zhu (Oakville, ON/) who each had five kills in the match while Avery Kelly (Calgary AB/) put down four. At the bet Grace Crooks (Ottawa, ON/) led the way with four blocks while Claire Gagne (Cambridge, ON/) and Lauren Hebert (Burlington, ON/) each had three. Gagne also finished with 20 assists for the Warriors. Defensively, Nora Kotun (Sherwood Park, AB/) was solid with a game high 12 digs.

For Queen’s it was Arielle Palermo leading the way for her Gaels with 15 kills while Mary Steward had 13. Setting up the Queen’s attack was Shea Baker who finished with 41 assists.

A huge thank you to all the seniors who were incredibly dedicated to the Warriors since day 1 and gave the Warriors faithful a lot to be excited about the last few years.
