Female Athlete of the Week
Vanesa Gatto – Capilano Blues
She started at outside hitter instead of her usual libero spot in both matches last weekend and helped the team to its best showing of the season. The fourth-year native of Coquitlam chalked up 14 kills in Friday’s five-set defeat to the COTR Avalanche while also adding two aces. Then on Saturday, she reached double digits again with 10 kills and had a block and an ace as the Blues bounced back with a win to split the match against the visiting Avalanche.
Male Athlete of the Week
Hunter Jacobucci – COTR Avalanche
As a first-year middle blocker, Jacobucci had his most consistent weekend of the season with strong performances in all three matches on the road against Douglas and Capilano. On Thursday against the Royals, he tallied five kills, three blocks and four digs in a competitive match against the Royals. He continued his strong play on Friday in the five-set battle at Capilano with nine kills, three aces, one block and five digs. In the final contest of the three-match road trip, Jacobucci0 put up seven kills, had a block and five more digs. In 13 sets, he tallied a total of 21 kills, five blocks, three aces and 11 digs while maintaining his high offensive efficiency as the Avs went 1-2 on the trip.
