Spartans prove too much in weekend opener

CALGARY – Henry Rempel finished with 20 kills, five digs, three blocks and three aces to lead the Trinity Western Spartans to a 3-0 win over the University of Calgary Dinos men’s volleyball team Friday night from the Jack Simpson Gym.

It looked like this one was headed to extras, as the Dinos held a late lead in the third before Rempel took over to finish off the sweep, 25-15, 25-19, 31-29.

Calgary falls to 7-16 on the year with the loss, while TWU moves to 15-8.

Zach Evans had a nice night for the Dinos, tallying a team-high 13 kills while hitting .333.

Zack Durrant once again guided the offence and dished out 24 assists.

Max Penner also had a strong showing, finishing the night with four kills on just eight swings to go with four blocks.

The two teams will close out the regular season Saturday with a 6 p.m. first serve.
