Spartans beat the heat, remain the team to beat

The Trinity Western Spartans remained the top-ranked team in the U SPORTS women’s volleyball rankings after sweeping UBC Okanagan in a two-game quarter-final series last week. TWU (22-2, 2-0) is spending its thirteenth straight week atop the table.

No. 4 Dalhousie (17-3, 2-0) made the biggest move, jumping up three spots from last week. No. 5 Winnipeg (18-6, 2-1) and No. 7 Waterloo (16-4, 1-0) each leaped one spot forward as well.

There was no movement among the top three teams as Brock (18-2, 1-0) and Mount Royal (19-5, 2-0) remain at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Four teams leaped into the ranking, including No. 6 UQAM (13-5, 2-0), No. 8 Manitoba (14-10, 2-0), No. 9 Acadia (14-10, 2-1) and finally No. 10 Queen’s (11-9, 1-0).

Playoffs continue as the No. 4 Tigers host the No. 9 Axewomen in the AUS Finals starting this Thursday. In Canada West, the semifinal series between the top-ranked Spartans and No. 5 Winnipeg gets underway on Thursday, while Manitoba and Mount Royal hit the court starting on Friday.
