Sea-Hawks Fall to SMU

In the second game of the weekend the SMU Huskies defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks in three sets.

In the second game of the weekend the SMU Huskies defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks in three sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 at the Fieldhouse on Saturday night in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action.

The home town team battled early keeping the game close against the Huskies. But the Huskies were able to pull way to a 18-9 lead. Memorial tried to battle back into the set, except a few errors by the Sea-Hawks lead to the Huskies taking the set 25-15.

Memorial was able to jump out to the lead in the second set. Sea-Hawks were up 10-6. The Huskies weren’t going to go down without a fight and worked their way back to 17-17. In the end the Huskies were able to come away with the set 25-20.

SMU carried the momentum into the third set to take a 3-0 lead. Yet the Sea-Hawks worked their way back into set to get to a 7-7 tie. Eventually the Huskies were able to outlast the Sea-Hawks attacks to take the final set 25-21.

The Huskies were led all night by Olivia Bell, who finished with a team high 10 kills and 11 digs. Jakobie Friesen had another big night tonight finishing with 24 assist for the Huskies.

For Memorial, Erica Rafuse was a standout on defense. She had a game high 15 digs. Cecilie Dumaresque led the Sea-Hawks with 7 kills, while Jenna Poole dished out 14 assists in a losing effort.

Memorial and Saint Mary’s return to the court tomorrow for one more match this weekend, October 31st at 12 p.m.
