(SHERBROOKE, QC) The UNB REDS pushed the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked Sherbrooke Vert et Or to a deciding set Friday in a 3-2 loss.

The RSEQ-leading Vert et Or won 25-17, 27-29, 24-26, 25-19, and 15-9.

“We played a tough team in a very tough environment, and this is exactly what we need after being home the last two weekends,” said REDS’ head coach Dan McMorran. “We’ll be on the road for the remainder of the season, so it doesn’t get easier from here.”

Jacob Harris (Clarenville, NL) led the REDS with 16 kills while setter Lucas Maffia (Victoria, BC) registered 40 assists.

Rafael Hilario (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) added 11 kills and Nick Glynn (Fredericton, NB) had eight kills and seven digs.

“They were disappointing first and fifth sets for us,” said Coach McMorran. “I thought we battled well in the middle of the match and gave ourselves an opportunity.”

Yoan David (Sherbrooke, QC) and Zachary Hollands (St-Christophe d’Arthabaska, QC) both had a game-high 18 kills for the home team.

“We can’t afford to drop in level against this team,” said McMorran. “That will be our challenge for tomorrow.”

The REDS and Vert et Or conclude their regular season schedules on Saturday. First serve is at 2:00pm Atlantic.

The REDS are now 7-and-8, good for third place in the RSEQ standings, while Sherbrooke remains unbeaten at 14-and-0.
