RECAP: Women’s volleyball face defeat after tough battle with UQAM

The Gee-Gees women’s volleyball hit the road for their second meeting with the UQAM Citadins on Sunday. The afternoon matchup ended at 3-1 in favour of the Citadins after a tough four sets.

The Citadins came out strong, establishing a 6-1 lead early in the opening set. The Gee-Gees didn’t give the set away, clawing back in a tying things up at 9-9. The teams exchanged blows, and UQAM ultimately claimed the first set 25-22.

In the second set, the Gee-Gees put on an offensive clinic. Big kills by Audrey Odigie and Grace McKale kept Ottawa ahead throughout the set. Janae McKay brought the set to a close, giving the Gee-Gees the 25-15 win to tie up the match.

Despite Ottawa’s efforts, UQAM took the final two sets 25-23.

Odigie logged an impressive 30 kills in the battle while McKale contributed 11. Maxim Langevin put up 55 assists.

The 3-1 loss ended the Gee-Gees six game winning streak and puts them in a four-way tie for second place in the RSEQ. With only seven games remaining on the schedule, the Gee-Gees will be looking to separate themselves from the pack.

Ottawa will host UQAC on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. before hitting the road to take on UQTR on Jan. 21. Tickets for Friday night’s game are available at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
