RDP to host CCAA’s best in Women’s Volleyball

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) in 2024.

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) institution will host the event in Red Deer, AB, from March 6-9, 2024.

“RDP continues to produce talented and competitive teams in the CCAA as proven by last year’s bronze-medal finish at Nationals,” said Beth Clark, CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor. “This history paired with an eager athletics department, solid foundation of community support, partnerships and a state-of-the-art facility makes it an easy choice to host the CCAA Championship in 2024.”

The RDP Queens are one of the premiere Women’s Volleyball programs in Canada. Over the last 20 years, the Queens have won five ACAC titles as well as three CCAA Championship crowns. At the national level, RDP has also earned an incredible nine silver medals and eight bronze medals, including a third-place finish at last year’s event in Charlottetown, PEI.

RDP had the privilege of hosting the successful 2019 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship and was also a major partner of the 2019 Canada Winter Games. RDP last hosted the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship in 1980 and 1987.

A legacy of the 2019 Canada Winter Games is the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, where all CCAA Championship matches will take place.

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, arguably one of Canada’s finest post-secondary sport facilities, is a world-class, inclusive facility that integrates education and learning with sport and training.

“RDP believes its new facility combined with our extensive championship hosting experience will position us well to host a CCAA Championship that will provide an exceptional experience to all participants and fans and showcase elite level volleyball to the community of Central Alberta,” said Randy Stewart, Manager of Athletics & Student Life at RDP.

The tournament will feature eight teams from across Canada: conference champions from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), ACAC, Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA), as well as a wildcard team and the host Queens.

Red Deer Polytechnic learns and works on Treaty 7, Treaty 6 and Métis ancestral lands, the gathering place of many Indigenous peoples.

The 2023 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Vancouver Island University (VIU) in Nanaimo, BC, from March 8-11.
