Queen’s Women’s Volleyball joins U SPORTS Top 10, Men’s Volleyball back to No. 5

KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 22, 2022) – Queen’s Women’s Volleyball joined the U SPORTS Top 10 at the No. 10 spot after winning both games over the weekend, not dropping a set to the Nipissing Lakers and Trent Excalibur at the ARC. Men’s Volleyball jumped back to No. 5 in the rankings. Men’s Hockey remained at No. 5, Women’s Basketball remained at No. 10, and Men’s Basketball dropped to No. 8 after having the weekend off.

Rachel Meilikhan (Toronto, Ont.) led the game with 17 kills as the Gaels defeated Nipissing 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 on Saturday, before Teah Cook (Georgetown, Ont.) led Queen’s with a game-high 14 kills and 11 digs, while also recording one block, in the Gaels’  25-19, 25-13, 25-17 win over Trent on Sunday.

The Gaels improved their record to 6-2 and jumped to third in the OUA East standings, behind the Toronto Varsity Blues (8-0) and York Lions (7-1).

Men’s Volleyball only had one game over the weekend, returning to the win column with a straight sets win over Nipissing on Saturday. The Gaels bounced back from their lone loss of the season last weekend to the Toronto Varsity Blues, and improved their record to 6-1. Queen’s is tied atop the OUA East with Nipissing, whose record fell to 6-1 with the loss, and Toronto.

Men’s Hockey opened the week Wednesday night at RMC, defeating the Paladins 4-1 before edging Nipissing 5-4 in a shootout Saturday in North Bay, Ont. The win snapped the Lakers’ four-game winning streak and extended their own winning streak to three games. The Gaels improved their record to 11-1-1 on the season and increased their lead in the OUA East Division to eight points.

Queen’s Women’s and Men’s Basketball were off this weekend.
